Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) & 6 others in subcommittee under investigation
The investigations by two separate ethics offices include an examination of the chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on defense, John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), as well as others who helped steer federal funds to clients of the PMA Group. The lawmakers received campaign contributions from the firm and its clients. A document obtained by The Washington Post shows that the subcommittee members under scrutiny also include Peter J. Visclosky (D-Ind.), James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) , C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.) and Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.).

Obama Signs Expanded Hate Crimes Law
By Peter J. Smith
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 28, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - President Barack Obama has now signed into law a controversial "hate crimes" bill that authorizes the federal government to intervene in violent crimes that appear motivated by hatred of homosexuals and apply stiffer penalties and sentences. ¶
>snip< The expanded hate crime legislation extends special protection to victims of crime who are targeted by perpetrators based on an actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. ¶
The bill has also been labeled the "pedophile protection act,"
>snip< Opponents of the hate crimes legislation have charged that the bill violates the due process and equal protection clauses of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution by making an individual's thought regarding certain groups as much a factor as the nature of his act in prosecuting a crime. ¶

Radical Left-Wing Group ACORN To, AGAIN, Receive MILLIONS of Taxpayer Dollars
Congressional Cut-Off of ACORN Funding a Sham: Tell Congress to Cut Their Funds PERMANENTLY! ¶
Congress only voted to de-fund ACORN for ONE MONTH -- which means we have to fight hard AGAIN to FORCE them to defund this far-left group... PERMANENTLY! ¶
See video below: (40 seconds)
TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND THE RADICAL LEFTIST GROUP "ACORN" PERMANENTLY: During the last two election cycles, ACORN has been under investigation for election fraud and related offenses in nearly 20 states, for crimes ranging from false voter registrations and illegal voting, to identity theft and records tampering, to using felons as registration workers. According to the Employment Policies Institute, ACORN is a non-profit (but not federally tax-exempt) organization at the center of a vast web of groups run by long-time anti-corporate activist Wade Rathke and a handful of his closest allies. ACORN claims 200,000 member families (though member dues only account for eight percent of the organization's massive budget), and represents approximately 80,000 union members. It operates "social justice" radio stations, community television groups, and a magazine. It runs home mortgage and tax counseling centers, a voter-mobilization organization, left-wing schools, a furniture company, a consulting firm, and a law/lobbying firm. ¶
It's funded by YOU AND ME -- to the tune of MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS YEARLY! ¶
The American people were so upset with the extent of ACORN's criminal activities that we demanded that Congress de-fund this radical leftist group. ¶

Today, there is a Churchill in our midst. ¶
Like the original “Last Lion,” he is loathed and slandered by his critics. His utterances about the present and growing threats and his past service to his country are savaged by the national leadership, even as they try to dismiss him as “discredited” (as Sen. Carl Levin put it on Sunday) or a liability for his party (as innumerable political operatives and pundits insist). ¶ >snip<

First Battle of the 2009 Christmas Season over Nativity Displays; Federal Lawsuit Filed
Monday, October 26, 2009
ANN ARBOR, MI - For 63 years, a privately maintained nativity scene has been displayed during the Christmas season on a public median in Warren, Michigan. That 63 year-old tradition was abruptly ended by the Macomb County Road Commission, which controls private displays on public medians in the county, after it received a threatening letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist organization that has as its aim the removal of all religious symbols from the public square. Rather than stand up to the atheists, the Road Commission ordered the removal of the private nativity scene, in violation of the Constitution. ¶
Last Friday, the Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Warren city resident John Satawa against the Road Commission for its discriminatory decision to ban the private display.

Army 'Excited' About New Subcompact Gun
Editorial comment from Billy Blogger: WHAT IN HELL IS THE ARMY TRYING TO PROVE? PRETTY DAMN SOON OUR TROOPS WILL BE CARRYING A PDW THAT HAS A "RED RYDER" LOGO.
Despite initial industry suspicion that the Army would let the effort die a slow death, the service is moving forward with the development of a compact weapon that shoots like a rifle but slings like a sub gun. ¶
According to the Army official in charge of fielding new weapons for the service, the search for a so-called "subcompact individual weapon system" is moving ahead in earnest. In May, the Army sponsored a user evaluation where Soldiers put subcompact weapons through their paces to see if the idea would stick. Per diem rate bumped to $59 per day
Per diem rate bumped to $59 per day . The per diem rate for truckers – and other transportation workers – was bumped to $59 from $52. The per diem kicked into effect Oct. 1 for most truckers.
Tax experts have debated whether a trucker who uses the per diem rate to figure expenses can actually switch to the “new” rate after it becomes effective Oct. 1. Some accountants have said taxpayers must stick with the old rate through the end of each calendar year.
Land Line contributing columnist Howard Abrams requested an interpretation of the rules from the IRS when the rate was changed in 2005. That interpretation still stands.
So for the sake of clarity: Any trucker who used the $52 per diem special transportation rate for the first nine months of 2009, can claim $59 per diem for the remainder of the year for travel in the U.S.
However, truckers who used the “high-low” method or the actual expense reimbursement method for the first nine months of 2009 cannot switch over to the special transportation industry rates until the end of a calendar year.

This weekend, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) vetoed Senate Bill 585 but signed Assembly Bill 962 into law.SB585 would have prohibited the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace in Daly City, just outside of San Francisco. Simply put, SB585 was a stepping-stone to banning gun shows on all publicly-owned property in California. ¶
Unfortunately, the Governor did sign AB962. This bill requires individuals purchasing ammunition be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale, mandates that dealers keep these records and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice. Ammunition retailers would also have to store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. Finally, mail order ammunition sales are prohibited under AB962. Over twenty years ago, Congress abolished similar requirements because ammunition sales records were found to be useless for solving crimes. AB962 is a dire threat to our Second Amendment rights in the Golden State. ¶
Thank you to all of the NRA members who answered the call in opposition to SB585.Please contact Governor Schwarzenegger TODAY and respectfully voice your disapproval with his signing of AB962. ¶
The Governor can be reached by phone at 916-445-2841 or via fax at 916-558-3160. ¶

Leading the fight is U S Marine Gunnery Sgt Michael Burghardt, known as 'Iron Mike' or just 'Gunny'. He is on his third tour in Iraq . He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour.
Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US Marines. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. 'You can't react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision,' he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term 'the longest walk', stepping gingerly into a 5 foot deep and 8 foot wide crater.
The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7 inch knife to probe the ground. 'I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs,' he says. 'That's when I knew I was screwed.' Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant's feet 'A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded,' he recalls. 'As I was in the air I remember thinking, 'I don't believe they got me...' I was just ticked off they were able to do it. Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down.'
His fellow Marines cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there 'My dad's a Vietnam vet who's paralyzed from the waist down,' says Sgt Burghardt. 'I was lying there thinking I didn't want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down. Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, 'Good, I'm in business.' As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in. 'I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn't going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher.' He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. 'I flipped them one.. It was like, 'OK, I lost that round but I'll be back next week.'
Copies of a photograph depicting his defiance, taken by Jeff Bundy for the Omaha World-Herald, adorn the walls of homes across America and that of Col John Gronski, the brigade commander in Ramadi, who has hailed the image as an exemplar of the warrior spirit.
Sgt Burghardt's injuries - burns and wounds to his legs and buttocks - kept him off duty for nearly a month and could have earned him a ticket home. But, like his father - who was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for being wounded in action in Vietnam - he stayed in Ramadi to engage in the battle against insurgents who are forever coming up with more ingenious ways of killing Americans. NASA preps to shoot the moon
Richard Hoagland a noted author & investigator of space programs around the world said on "Coast To Coast AM" radio program Tuesday night that the moon has been occupied by humans for the past 40 years. ¶
>>>>><<<<<
On Friday morning October 9 at 4:31:19 a.m. PDT, NASA plans to have two spacecraft crash into the lunar surface to dig up some moon dust and search for water. ¶
As it races toward the moon, the Lunar CRater Observing and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) will launch the still-attached upper stage of the Atlas V Centaur rocket to strike the moon first and create a plume of debris that LCROSS will analyze for about four minutes before it gets cratered and creates its own plume. The greatest hope is that scientists will discover water as they search the debris from both impacts. ¶

The standard cliché regarding evidence is the so-called "smoking gun"; that one crucial piece which, by itself, clearly "proves the case."
Well, in terms of NASA -- and what they've been hiding on the Moon for over 40 years -- we finally seem to have that piece. ¶

Well, in terms of NASA -- and what they've been hiding on the Moon for over 40 years -- we finally seem to have that piece. ¶
To understand the true dimensions of this startling and very recent development, we have to begin "at the beginning"; we have to start with the launch of NASA's first unmanned return mission to the Moon in over ten years. ¶
Our "smoking gun" -- long before this planned October, 2009 impact -- comes from the LCROSS side of this unique dual mission. ¶

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 11-8 this afternoon in favor of a bill renewing several Patriot Act authorities set to expire at the end of this year. But the legislation contained fewer civil liberties protections than a Patriot-renewal bill the committee passed four years ago.
Toward the end of the markup session, Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) expressed frustration that members of the panel were caving to pressure from the FBI and the Justice Department.
"We’re not the prosecutor committee…We're the Judiciary Committee," Feingold complained. "The debate appears to be: if any prosecutor's argument is against it or any FBI argument is against it, that’s the end of the debate. I don’t buy it."

The sheriff said, "I'll take a little trip to the border and turn them over to the border."

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County sheriff, who has drawn scorn and praise for a running crackdown on illegal immigrants in this city’s metropolitan area, said Tuesday that federal officials had taken away his deputies’ authority to make immigration arrests in the field.
>snip< Last week, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus wrote to President Obama, urging him to “immediately terminate” the program because of the complaints.
>snip< The Maricopa agreement was also being watched to see if Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, a Democrat and the former governor of Arizona, would take the opportunity to rein in Mr. Arpaio, a Republican and one of the state’s most popular figures. Although they did not often clash publicly, their political supporters often lashed out at one another.
>snip< He and Mr. Arpaio suggested that deputies could use the state anti-human smuggling law to make stops and refer suspected illegal immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, though it was not clear whether the agency would take them.
If not, the sheriff said, “I’ll take a little trip to the border and turn them over to the border.”

The U.S. Supreme Court reconvenes for its 2009-10 term on Oct. 5, with most of the attention going to the court's freshest face, newly confirmed Justice Sonia Sotomayor. But Sotomayor and her eight colleagues won't have a lot of time for orientation: the court will start immediately on a docket of controversial cases that will call on Justices to consider new facets of the Establishment Clause, gun ownership and prison terms for minors, among other issues. In total, the Justices have already agreed to hear 55 cases in the new term. Here are five to keep an eye on. Brooks Kraft / Corbis for TIME
Salazar v. Buono
At issue: Whether the government can permit the display of a crucifix on public land as per the Establishment Clause.
Maryland v. Shatzer
At issue: The scope of the rights of police suspects, as given in the court's landmark 1966 decision, Miranda v. Arizona.
Graham v. Florida / Sullivan v. Florida
At issue: Whether life imprisonment for juveniles on nonhomicide charges constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.
National Rifle Association v. Chicago / McDonald v. Chicago
At issue: Second Amendment rights to gun ownership.
American Needle v. National Football League
At issue: Whether sporting leagues should be exempt from antitrust regulations.
