The Indiana Senate voted 37-13 to approve legislation that would punish employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.SB 580 carries one of the stiffest penalties in the nation for companies who hire undocumented workers. Under the legislation, employers who fail to verify the legal status of their workers after three different occasions would have their state business license suspended.
