Last night at the Johnson County Kansas Central Library a focus group on “The Challenges of Immigration” was held. Most of the young people there were from Olathe South High School for class credit, the consensus of the not so young were pleasantly surprised by the conservative bend of the students.

BREAKING: Drilling Ban to Expire - Democrats Lose Key Battle
House Democrats have formally admitted defeat today and are set to allow the temporary ban on off-shore drilling to expire at the end of this month. After fighting it literally for decades, House Democrats have finally caved to GOP pressure (and the will of the public) and will allow the ban to be lifted. Today, folks, is a victory for Americans and for Republicans throughout the Country. For the last few months, Republican candidates have hammered their Democratic opponents for their unwillingness to allow drilling despite its' overwhelming popularity among the public. Now, the days of Democratic drilling obstructionism look to be behind us for good. Despite a hail-ditch sham drilling bill last week from Nancy Pelosi and her puppets - that means you Dennis Moore and Nancy Boyda - Republican pressure on the subject appears to have prevailed. More analysis in the days to come on exactly how this will affect Elections both in Kansas and throughout the Country.

What do you think? Make you comment and tell us.

More local police departments enforcing federal immigration laws

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez speaks to a group of concerned citizens during a community meeting in February. The Durham police department checks the immigration status of anyone arrested.

HOUSTON - Mayra Figueroa — a naturalized U.S. citizen, community organizer and licensed driver — had no reason to fear being arrested, no need to worry about deported.
Then she was pulled over by a Houston police officer, who told her he found it suspicious that a Latina was driving a late-model car. The first thing the officer requested? Figueroa's Social Security card, as proof of citizenship.
Until now, few local police and sheriff's departments wanted any part of enforcing federal civil immigration laws. They had their hands full with local crime — and needed witnesses and victims to work with them without fear. Link to related story & video

In absolute violation of federal law, literally thousands of town, city, county and even state governments actively provide “sanctuary” for illegal aliens when they illegally prohibit police officers from communicating with federal immigration authorities or even inquiring about the immigration status of individuals.

Apparently our Bishops and priests couldn't care less.

Dear Bishop Wester: I am a Catholic lawyer who read with incredulity your remarks on the recent ICE raids at various locations. They resulted in the [appropriate] arrest of hundreds of illegal aliens who are already feloniously present in the USA illegally (8 USC $1324, $1325). In addition, business owners who employed these illegal were [appropriately] arrested.

Dismissing a White House veto threat, the House voted Tuesday to end a pilot program giving Mexican trucks access to U.S. highways.

Dismissing a White House veto threat, the House voted Tuesday to end a pilot program giving Mexican trucks access to U.S. highways.
The Bush administration stressed that the United States is obligated, under the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, to open up American roads to Mexican truckers, and that terminating the year-old demonstration project would have repercussions for American trucks allowed into Mexico. Passage of the House bill, it said “would pose significant and immediate risks to U.S. interests.”

Immigration raids worry small towns

Has the Kansas City Star put a bull’s eye on the Missouri town of Milan? Are the employers in the city of Milan aware of the federal requirements barring the hiring illegal aliens? Billy Bloger

By SCOTT CANONThe Kansas City Star
MILAN, Mo. It takes a lot of sturdy, even desperate, people to turn 10,000 hogs a day into mountains of pork chops and tenderloins.
So even though the plant’s wages are generous for rural Missouri — starting at $11.25 an hour with a chance to get beyond $25 an hour — it has taken a wave of largely Latino immigrants to fill the jobs. That’s transformed Sullivan County from nearly all-white to nearly half-brown.

After you go to the Kansas City Star's story(s) & look at the photos there and notice that the American flag is hanging backwards, Billy blogger wonders if anyone has called the storefront of Milan Centro Latino to tell them.

By ELLIOT SPAGAT The Associated Press

A man pleaded guilty Thursday to running an organization that authorities said smuggled dozens of illegal immigrants per day through a live bombing range in southeastern California.
Photo of a house allegedly used for smuggling illegal immigrants in Holtville, Calif., is shown Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2008. Javier Sanchez Perfino pleaded guilty Thursday Sept. 11, 2008, to running an organization that smuggled illegal immigrants through a live bombing range, after keeping them in the Holtville home.

Kansas' audit on illegal immigration hits snag

Kansas lawmakers struggled this year to come to grips with illegal immigration. Some wanted to penalize businesses that repeatedly hire them. Others wanted to do more to stop illegal immigrants from staying here, or from drawing on state services.
Thanks to pushback from powerful industry lobbyists, those ideas went nowhere.
And now it's looking like the one success - calls for a study of the impact of illegal immigration on Kansas - is also in trouble.
For Kansas policy watchers, it's like hearing the latest Harry Potter movie has been kicked back to next summer.
A little background: both sides of this often contentious debate have complained about the lack of any good statistics on the issue.

House Judiciary Considers Measures That Will Harm American Workers

FAIR has learned from Congressional staffers that the full House Judiciary Committee will meet this week to consider four immigration-related bills, all of which are a gift to big business special interests seeking to expand the number of employment-based visas. If passed, these bills will flood our workforce with foreign labor in a time when unemployment is rising and recently hit a high of 6.1%
At a time when many are looking for jobs, the House Judiciary Committee is set to pass H.R. 5882, H.R. 6020, and H.R. 5924 - all of which will dramatically increase the stream of foreign workers coming into the American workforce:
This is bad if passed into law! Follow the above link, see if your Represenative is on this committee and call, call, call. If your Represenative is not call anyway.

GOP Platform Reverses Bush Pro-Amnesty Stance

Republicans ratified a Party platform this week that reversed the pro-amnesty plank President Bush laid out in the 2004 platform. The platform states that the GOP opposes amnesty, supports border security, and calls for "smarter" interior enforcement against illegal workers and lawbreaking employers alike.
The platform says "smarter" enforcement necessitates the use of E-Verify:

First the Hispanic is using our armed services to further educate themselves in the art of war & now the “skin heads”, who next Jesuits, Eskimos, I hear they want all that state back so the black gold and natural gas can be sold to the lower 48 without all the tree huggers blocking the retrieval of Alaska’s resources. WAIT A MINUTE! THAT’S IT! THE ESKIMO’S. We’ve got to keep a look out for them in the Army.
Do any of you that have been to little resorts like; Parris Island, San Diego, Great Lakes, Lackland or any one of the Army, Coast Guard or Merchant Marine training centers think these sort of people won’t be identified? This not a rhetorical question, if you are concearned check with the armed services and see what they say about this.

"White supremacists infiltrate militaryTwo years ago, we revealed that alarming numbers of neo-Nazi skinheads and other white supremacist extremists were taking advantage of lowered recruiting standards and infiltrating the U.S. armed forces in order to receive combat training and gain access to weapons and explosives. New evidence is emerging that not only supports SPLC findings but also indicates the problem may have worsened."

Is the United States importing and training it’s own insurgency

I have listened recently to open border amnesty advocates lionize immigrants that are serving in the military today. Some have given their life for America recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. All did so voluntarily. Always eager to prove just how good illegal aliens really are for America, I doubt they have bothered to check their immigration status. It is reasonable to assume they are unable to differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants.

RNC Rumblings: Brownback Confirms Gov. Candidacy

We've just learned that this morning, at an RNC breakfast in Minnesota, Senator Sam Brownback confirmed that he will indeed be seeking the Republican Gubernatorial nomination in 2010.

Brownback did so in a room full of KSGOP insiders and reporters. This confirms what most of us have expected for quite some time - that Sam Brownback will be facing off against Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, who has already openly declared his candidacy for the nomination.

Sorry! I just could not resist.

The photo above captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect wildlife in the USA Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democrat Party as they have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance.

(3) When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it.

(4) All retired military personnel will be required to man one of our many observation towers on the southern border. (six month tour) They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

(10) All foreign aid using American taxpayer money will immediately cease, and the saved money will pay off the national debt and ultimately lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, we'll ask the American people if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision whether it's a worthy cause.

(11) The Pledge of Allegiance will be said every day at school and every day in Congress.

(12) The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes but a vote for me will get you better than what you have, and better than what you're gonna get. Thanks for listening, and remember to write in my name on the ballot in November. God Bless America !!!!!!!!!!!

Chamber Calls E-Verify 'Misguided in Scathing Report

Vesna Jaksic: The National Law Journal
"misguided, premature, and unwarranted," the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has issued a report against a proposal requiring federal contractors to use an online system to verify employees' immigration status.
The Chamber submitted 26 pages of comments this week regarding a proposed rule that would require federal contractors to participate in E-Verify, also called the Basic Pilot Program. The program is intended to screen out illegal aliens by matching employee names with Social Security numbers.
