Steve Irwin's American widow becomes Australian citizen

Terri Irwin found a unique way to honor her late husband over the weekend: She adopted his homeland as her own.

The widow of crocodile hunter Steve Irwin became an Australian citizen during Steve Irwin Day activities at Australia Zoo.

With their children Bindi and Robert at her side, American-born Terri was naturalized in front of more than 5,000 people, who she surprised with the ceremony. "I feel like I just got married," she said, according to Australian news reports.

Also announced over the weekend: A Steve Irwin commemorative $1 coin and the naming of a rare, khaki-colored tree snail species after the wildlife warrior.

The snail's name? Crikey steveirwini.

Steve Irwin was 44 when he died on Sept. 4, 2006 after being stung by a stingray while filming at the Great Barrier Reef.

Still miss that guy.
